The World Cup finale was all about successes and best performances. The GHOST Factory Racing Team was able to once again secure the team ranking after a solid XCC and an equally successful XCO race. In addition, the overall team ranking also went to GHOST on this last World Cup weekend.

GHOST Factory Racing wins Overall World Cup Team ranking

This year, the World Cup finals could once again take place in Snowshoe, USA, from September 17 to 19, 2021. After an enormously successful race in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), the girls from GHOST Factory Racing were able to demonstrate their skills, in some cases setting new personal bests in the process. However, the highlight of the weekend was not only the successful results in both races, but also the win of the team ranking and, resulting from this, the win of the overall team ranking.

2nd Place for Caroline Bohé

5th Place for Anne Terpstra

8th Place for Nadine Rieder

14th Place for Nicole Koller

Annual best performances in the World Cup final

The athletes had mixed feelings about the race in Snowshoe from the past, while Anne Terpstra was able to finish the XCO race in second place two years ago, Nicole Koller and Caroline Bohé were not satisfied with their races in the ski resort at that time. Snowshoe Mountain is located about a four-hour drive from Washington DC in West Virginia, far from any major cities or towns. This, however, did not diminish the crowds and, just like two years ago, the course was lined with many fans in sometimes crazy costumes.

The best XCC-result in GHOST Factory Racing history

At the XCC ShortTrack race on Friday, the team was already able to achieve joint starting positions in the first two rows, making it the best XCC result in the team's history. Nadine Rieder was able to work her way up to 13th place with a consistent race within the 25-minute-long competition. Anne Terpstra was initially part of the Top8, but had to reduce the pace a bit, dropping back a few places, and it was only in the final lap that she managed to regain eighth place again, securing a front row starting position. Nicole Koller initially lost a lot of valuable time after a crash right in front of her in the first lap, but fought her way back into the TOP10 and eventually up to sixth place, achieving her best short track result and the best starting position of her career.

Caroline Bohé as overall second

Caroline finished her last U23 season as strong as she was consistent. She finished all six World Cups of the year on the podium and celebrated her fifth second place in Snowshoe. The Danish Champion looks back on her season with pride:

"I dreamed of an U23 World Cup podium before the season, now I got to celebrate it at every single round. Together with the World Cup medal, participating in the Olympic Games and the Danish Champion's jersey, this was certainly the best and most successful season of my career. Surely, I would have loved to win another World Cup, but Mona was just out of reach. Thanks to everyone who made this year possible, now I can't wait to compete in the Elite category together with my teammates and also to gain my first experience in the XCC."

14th place despite defect for Nicole Koller

Nicole was still disappointed immediately after the race, as a defect cost her a TOP10 result she thought was safe and in the bag:

"In the end, I have to hold myself accountable, I didn't hit the line in the rock garden and damaged my rear tire on a rock. That's why I'm a bit disappointed at first, today, the Top Ten were within reach. But together with the XCC result and looking back at the entire season I am definitely happy, even though I was not quite able to capitalize on the shape I am in at the moment. Thanks to everyone for the support over the season, I think our team performance today showed what we are capable of together."

For the Swiss rider, it's straight on to the Road World Championships where she still competes in the team time trial and road race.

Nadine Rieder in top shape

Nadine was already able to achieve a remarkable result in Lenzerheide and more than surpassed it once again. After a solid XCC race, she got off to a good start in the XCO and found herself right from the start with her two teammates around seventh to ninth place:

"I didn't really know what to make of riding around there. I was always convinced I could ride TOP10, but then to actually be able to be there was an insane feeling. Then we basically rode several laps as a trio and the spectators practically freaked out, that was sensational. We've been working on a lot of factors since I've joined the team and to be able to implement all that after my injury makes me super proud. I have to process all this now, thank you to my coach and all those who have supported us to be able to celebrate together now."

Annual best result for Anne Terpstra

Anne was initially really exhausted after the World Cup in Lenzerheide, especially mentally, but also physically, and therefore skipped the Dutch Championships that took place in the meantime: „It's a shame to give up the jersey without a fight, but I just wasn't able to compete in all the races within such a short time. That's why we went on a bike-packing trip for a few days, it gave me new energy for the World Cup final."“ After a few days off, however, the Dutch woman managed her best performance of the year at the World Cup final finishing in fifth place:

"It's hard to explain how I felt, but, together with my teammates, I was able to pick myself up again and give it my all, even though I wasn't always in a good mood this week. The race itself went very well, I had a good start, was in the TOP10 and was able to work my way up to fifth place with consistent lap times. The spectators went crazy when we were all together at the beginning, even though I could hardly keep up with the other two. It got better as the race went on and that eventually led to a cool result."

Sensational results secure Overall World Cup win

All three Elite riders together were again able to win the day's team ranking thanks to their strong performances in the XCC and XCO. The gap in the overall team ranking was turned around and, due to the sensational results, the team won the Overall Team World Cup for the second time since 2019. "It's a great feeling to be able to go on the podium together with everyone and we all feel that it gives us another huge push to be able to celebrate this together. For the second time, we were the best team of the season, which is brilliant", said Thomas Wickles after the race.
